The Huguenot Trail District

Brave the trail! The Huguenot Trail District serves the scouts, scouters, and families of central Virginia. The district is an integral part of the Heart of Virginia Council and aims to promote the scouting cause by providing training, resources, leadership, and district wide events.

Friends of Scouting Dinner
Don't miss this fantastic event, the Heart of Virginia's annual Friends of Scouting dinner. Interested in attending? The event will take place February 23rd at the Greater Richmond Convention Center with a 6:00pm reception and 7:00pm dinner. Guest speakers are Col. James B. Hickey, US Army (ret.) and LT Jason Redman, USN, SEAL Officer. Huguenot Trail Fall Camporee
The 2012 district camporee will be a chance for troops to exhibit their scouting skills in an unusual camporee style. Plan on joining other troops October 5th through 7th at Finley Albright Scout Reservation for a fun backpacking experience. Put this date on your troop's calendar, we'll see you there!
New Eagle Workbook
The District Advancement Committee wants to alert you about the new Eagle Project requirements and the new Eagle Scout Project Workbook that is required for those seeking project approvals starting in 2012.

You will need to familiarize yourself with the modifications in the new Eagle process in order to facilitate the progress of our Life Scouts toward the Eagle rank. The new Eagle Workbook asks for some detailed information that was not required before. Additionally, the Project Proposal itself doesn’t require near the detail for the execution of the project that was required in the old workbook.

All scouts are working on their Eagle Project but have not yet had it approved by the district will need to be using the new Eagle Workbook.
Hampden-Sydney College Merit Badge Weekend
Hampden-Sydney College is hosting a Merit Badge College Weekend Friday February 24, 2012 through Sunday February 26, 2012, open to all Scouts in the Heart of Virginia Council. Thanks to the support and involvement of the college administration, faculty, staff and community, a great weekend will be provided and merit badge opportunities taught by qualified instructors. While there, please explore the 1330 acre historic campus.

The cost of the event is $15 per person. This includes Saturday’s lunch in the Hampden-Sydney dining hall in Pannill Commons and the opportunity to attend 2 merit badge sessions

Pinewood Derby Registration
The District Pinewood Derby is right around the corner this coming Feb. 25th! Download the event flyer and registration form and submit to council.
Pinewood Derby Track Needed
We need just one more small item to make our 2012 District Pinewood Derby a success: another Track! District Pinewood Derby
The Huguenot Trail Pinewood Derby will be held February 25th. The following are the rules that will be followed during derby. Individual Packs should use these as a guide for their own Pinewood Derby.

These rules have been developed over the years to help ensure that each entry does not provide an unfair advantage over their competition. The are unchanged from last year.

Clarification: NO pre-made/cut cars are allowed. This includes "official" BSA pre-made kits by Revell or other manufactures. Use of these kits is not in the spirit of Scouting.
Geologist Activity Pin Workshop
The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia is offering a workshop for Webelos to earn their Geologist Activity Pin at Midlothian Mines Park. This program is geared for Cub Scouts ages 9-10. Scouts will learn about rock types, how coal is formed, history of coal mining in Chesterfield County and its impact to the region. To register call 748-1623. Workshops take place March 31 2-4pm ($10 fee, course #22813) and April 21 2-4pm ($10 fee, course #22814).
